Happy New Year

Hello lovely readers! 2018 was a year that started off badly but ended on a very positive note. I tackled some personal issues that I had been avoiding for a long time. 2018 was a year for spiritual and emotional growth. I was blessed to have the opportunity to grow on a professional level as well this year. For the past 5 months, I've taken on an interim role as the team lead in my department and I've learned so much. I will find out in January if I can continue occupying the position permanently, fingers crossed! This year I have also pushed myself to start selling my Etsy crafts in person for the first time, after a friend had been suggesting it for years. I've put more effort into marketing my Etsy store and it has definitely been paying off.

I haven't written many blog posts this year compared to previous years. I'm hoping to write more often in 2019. I'm looking forward to what the year brings, and I'm sending positive vibes to you all. Remember that even if you have a bad experience, it is an opportunity to learn and grow. We are endlessly creating ourselves. Here's to a fantastic year!!

How To Undertake Your Dream Bedroom Makeover

Undertaking a bedroom makeover can be pretty overwhelming. After all, you have to spend at least the next 5 to 7 years living in that space. If you’re planning on giving your bedroom that much-needed makeover, here are some interesting décor tips and suggestions for you. Incorporating these tips will give your bedroom that upgrade you have always wanted for it. Here’s everything you need to know:

Flooring Ideas For Your Bedroom
There are so many options when it comes to selecting the perfect flooring for your bedroom that it can be confusing. However, these suggestions make it simple and easy for you to select the correct flooring for your bedroom:
·      Wooden Flooring – If your home is located in a cold and chilly city, then the best bet for your bedroom floor would be wood. Wood helps to keep the surroundings warm and prevents the bedroom from becoming an icebox.
·      Marble Flooring – A marble flooring is perfect if you live in a tropical climatic condition. The marble will remain cool throughout the day and will also prevent your bedroom from becoming an oven in the unbearably hot summer months.

Lighting Plays A Very Important Role In Enhancing The Bedroom Décor
When we say lighting, we don’t just mean the lights that are hanging down from your ceiling, but also the natural light that flows into space. Expanding the size of your windows, or opting for floor to ceiling windows will allow more natural light to flow into your bedroom. When natural light flows into any space, the space automatically looks brighter, happier and larger. In addition to the natural lighting, you can also install modern and contemporary light structures. Pendant lights, string lights, wall lamps or modern chandeliers can be considered for your bedroom.

Artificial Landscaping Products For That Natural Charm
Installing artificial indoor trees and plants can give your bedroom that natural charm. If your bedroom has high ceilings and is large in size, you can get fake coconut palm tree options, artificial Areca plants and other such tropical trees and plants. If you wish to give your bedroom that romantic and dreamy vibe, you can opt for the illuminated artificial palm trees. The best part about installing indoor silk palm trees is that they require no maintenance and care. They are long-lasting, easy to install, reasonably priced and durable. These faux landscaping products look absolutely realistic and can fool even an expert gardener into believing that they are real.

Wall Paint Ideas For The Bedroom
The ancient trend of whitewash on the walls is pretty much history. Most homeowners now want their bedroom walls to look vibrant and cheerful. Here are some ideas of how you can get creative with the wall paint for your bedroom walls:
·      Opting for an accent wall can transform the entire look and feel of your bedroom. The accent wall should be painted in a vibrant shade, while the other walls in the bedroom should be painted with a neutral shade. Colors that are popularly chosen for accent walls include red, yellow, lavender, green and so on.
·      You can always opt for wall art for the walls of your bedroom. You can hire a professional artist to paint a majestic picture on the walls of your bedroom.
·      You can put a bright and cheerful wallpaper on the bedroom ceiling or on a single wall in your bedroom. Nowadays, many beautifully designed and patterned wallpapers are available for you to choose from. You can opt for a geometric pattern wallpaper, a wallpaper with pretty motifs and so on.

Go Minimalistic With The Furniture
Nobody likes to sleep or relax in a bedroom that’s cramped and cluttered. You need to make sure that you go minimalistic with the décor when you go in for a bedroom makeover. Install only those pieces of furniture that you will use regularly. Avoid cluttering the bedroom with unnecessary showpieces and décor items. Keep your wardrobe neat and clean and donate the clothes and shoes that you no longer wear to charity. When you go in for a minimalistic decor, your room will also look much more spacious and comfortable.

Install Wall Art In The Bedroom
If you aren’t keen on going crazy with paint colors on your bedroom walls, you can always use art as an alternate option for the walls. Installing canvas painting, wall hangings, tribal wall masks and other such items will give your bedroom walls that uplift. Always select bright and colorful paintings or wall hangings or tapestries to add color and vibrant to your room. If you have a limited budget, browse through your local flea market for unique, affordable and captivating wall art options. If you have a large budget, invest in a painting made by a well-renowned artist.

Drapes, Curtains, Rugs And Carpets
Installing drapes, curtains, rugs and carpets is absolutely essential for any bedroom. These décor items are necessary for practical and other purposes. The drapes and carpets play a very important role in preventing echoes and sound reverberation in the bedroom. Further, the drapes and curtains also prevent strong sunlight from flowing into the room in hot afternoons and also in the scalding summer months. Lastly, the rugs and carpets also add color and vibrancy to the bedroom. They give the bedroom a homely, warm and completely cozy feel.

Well, you now pretty much have all the décor ideas you could possibly need to be compiled in a list for you. All you need to do is start making the décor changes in your bedroom by incorporating the ideas. These ideas are tried and tested and you will not be disappointed with the results once your bedroom is completely done up and ready for use. You can tweak the suggestions in a way that is more personalized to your styles and preferences. Guests and visitors who visit your home will also be utterly impressed and mesmerized with the décor of the bedroom.

Avon Velet Perfume Review

Hello friends! I'm a big fan of Avon perfumes, and I have a few of their scents in my perfume collection. Avon fragrances are great quality and really affordable. Avon recently launched a new scent called Velvet. I was immediately drawn to the name and couldn't pass it up. The bottle actually has a velvet cap, how cute is that?
Description from the box: "Rich with Possibilities. Inspired by the sophisticated yet sensuous touch of velvet, this fragrance is a luxurious blend of luscious fig, sumptuous rose and warm patchouli."

I love to wear spicy, warm scents in the fall and winter seasons. Any fragrance containing patchouli definitely makes me feel sophisticated. I don't really like rose scents on their own, but the combination of fig, rose and patchouli is perfect! Velvet is spicy but not over the top, since the patchouli and rose balance each other out. Although it contains none of the same notes, Velvet really reminds me of Euphoria by Calvin Klein. It's a similar warm, sexy scent. Avon Velvet will definitely be my go-to fragrance for the next few months. I've been reaching for it over and over again since I purchased it.

What are your favorite perfumes? Thanks for stopping by! xo

10 Questions About Fall

Hi friends and happy Saturday! I was tagged by Melissa over at Castles and Hurricanes to do the 10 Questions About Fall Tag. How fun! So far, fall 2018 has been gorgeous. The crisp air is such a nice change from the humid summer we had. Let's get into the questions, and don't forget to check out Melissa's answers here.

1. What is one candle you MUST light every fall?

I have a candle from Bath and Body Works called Pumpkin Caramel Latte that I only light a few times in the fall. I've had this candle for probably 4 or 5 years now, since I light it so rarely. It smells a bit sickly sweet but I love it! I light it rarely because I don't want to finish it (even though I could always buy a similar one). I actually have a funny story about it. I once lit it when my friend Alicia was staying over for the weekend. I woke up early to make breakfast and lit the candle. She woke up to the sweet smell and thought I was making pancakes. Unfortunately, I was only making scrambled eggs and toast... and Alicia was so disappointed! Oops!!

2. When you think of fall, what does it remind you of?

Crisp air, spectacular colors, sweaters, boots, and happiness!

3. What is your all-time favorite fall/Halloween movie?

I really love Silent Hill. For the longest time I didn't even know it was based on a video game but it's a horror movie I try to watch every October.

4. What Halloween costume do you have in mind?

Helga Pataki! Are there any other Hey Arnold fans out there? :)

5. What is your favorite fall trend?

Sweaters!! I love oversized sweaters and sweater dresses with leggings and cute boots.

6. When you think of fall, what drink comes to mind?

Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice Latte, DUH!!!!!!!!

7. What is your go-to fall beauty product? A must-have staple!

I would have to say dark nail polish shades, and lots of lotion and moisturizer!! My skin gets so dry as soon as the season changes.

8. Do you prefer apple pie or pumpkin pie?

As much as I love all things pumpkin, I prefer apple pie. I'm just not a huge fan of the consistency of pumpkin pie. I love baking with real pumpkins, and last fall I made a pumpkin cream cheese loaf which was so yummy!!

9. Do you have any fall traditions? If so, tell us all about them!

My fall tradition is going to my family's cottage for Thanksgiving. Going to the cottage in October is so cozy.

10. The moment of truth: Is fall your favorite season?

YES IT IS!! What can I say, I'm a basic white girl ;)

Forever Young by Jean Pierre Makeup Removing Cleansing Wipes

Hi loves! I recently picked up these Forever Young by Jean Pierre makeup removing cleansing wipes at Ardene. The adorable packaging really caught my eye. These wipes are really affordable at 3 packs for $10.00. I wasn't sure what to expect quality wise, since makeup remover wipes are usually around $10.00 a pack at the drugstore. I am pleased to say that these wipes really impressed me! The wipes are very soft, and the waffle cone scent is so yummy. They do a great job at removing my makeup up. My skin is left feeling fresh and smooth.
The Forever Young by Jean Pierre Makeup Removing Cleansing Wipes will definitely be my go-to makeup remover wipes from now on. They are cruelty free, and also come in coconut scent and unscented.

What are your go-to makeup wipes? Thanks for stopping by! xo

Santee USA Max Volume Waterproof Mascara Review

Hello lovelies! I came across the Santee USA Max Volume waterproof mascara at Ardene for only $3.90, and decided to give it a try. I wasn't sure what to expect since it was so inexpensive. I was pleasantly surprised by the creamy, gel formula. This mascara has a curved brush, which helps to reach the lashes in the corners of my eyes. I wouldn't say this mascara is very volumizing, but it did really lengthen my lashes. Although it is waterproof, it actually washes off fairly easily with a combination of face wash and miscellar water (no harsh rubbing was required).

I will definitely be buying it again! Thank you for stopping by!

Summer Heat OOTD: Playful Yellow Shorts

Hi loves! I've really been loving kimonos lately. I find they add so much flair to an outfit. They're great even on hot days, since the material is so thin. While browsing Ardene a few weeks ago, I came across this black lacy kimono and thought it was perfect since it can match anything. My shorts are also from Ardene. I love the playful yellow pattern, and the material is so soft and cozy! Its a long weekend here for Canada Day, and I'm relaxing at my parent's cottage. I wore this outfit for a dinner date with Simon at a little restaurant in the cottage village.
T-shirt: Denver Hayes (thrifted)
Kimono: Ardene
Shorts: Ardene
Sneakers: Champion (purchased at Payless)

After dinner, we went for a walk in the village and I had fun posing in different places 😂
Here's a bonus picture of the end of the sunset:

Hope you are all having an amazing long weekend, and stay strong to those who are working today! Thanks for stopping by! xo

Celebrating my 28th in Montreal

Hi lovelies, how is everyone? I turned 28 this past weekend, and I spent my birthday sightseeing in Montreal with Simon. We stayed at a lovely Airbnb from Friday until Monday. The weather was perfect, and we had fun trying restaurants and pubs we'd never been to before. We both had never been to the top of Mont-Royal, and the view was breathtaking. I last spent a long weekend with Simon in Montreal in 2014 (see my post here), and quite a few things in the city have changed since then. The Old Port now has its own beach and Ferris wheel! Here are some of my favorite pictures from the trip:

New Ferris wheel at the Old Port
The Clocktower beach at the Old Port -- I love the boardwalk.
The Bonsai trees at the Montreal Botanical Garden were adorable.
The botanical garden peaceful and gorgeous.
The koi fish seemed to like having their picture taken -- they would swim closer to the edge of the water when people passed by!
The greenhouses of the Botanical Garden had different themes. I liked this dessert theme.
The rose garden has over 1000 species of roses!
All smiles on top of the Olympic Tower!
Here is the view. You can see Mont-Royal in the right corner.
Here is the stunning view from Mont-Royal!
Montreal has some really awesome murals. There was an art festival going on called Murale (I believe its still on until June 17), so more murals were being painted!

What's your favorite city for a long weekend getaway? Thank you for stopping by my blog! xo

I'm so excited to finally be wearing it! Its super lightweight, and really adds a pop to an otherwise plain outfit.

Kimono: Trovaré (purchased at Suzy Shier)
Tank top: H&M
Shorts: Garage
Sneakers: Champion (purchased at Payless)

Here's to many more sunny days ahead! Thanks for stopping by! xo

Organik Botanik Australia Spirulina + Avocado Oil Hair Mask Review

Hello lovely readers. It's time for a gross confession... I've been having a major hair crisis! My scalp has been itchy (and flaky...ew) on and off since the fall. I've been using Head and Shoulders shampoo regularly since high school, but it was just no longer cutting it. A friend recommended that I try adding tea tree oil to my shampoo. This seemed to help me for a while, but I think it eventually caused my scalp to dry out even more! My hair is naturally very thick, but it was losing its softness, and actually starting to feel coarse.
A co-worker suggested I try a hair mask. I've always thought hair masks were only meant to be applied to the ends of hair, but she suggested just giving my scalp a full pamper and really massaging the mask in. I had the Organik Botanik Australia Spirulina + Avocado Oil hair mask stashed away in my pantry, a gift I received from a friend a few months ago and kinda forgot about. I decided to give it a try, it certainly couldn't hurt, right? The mask says to apply a generous amount and let it work its magic for a 10-15 minutes. I ended up leaving it on for over an hour. It honestly made a world of difference. Even as I was rinsing it out, I could immediately feel my hair was softer than it had been in months. And my scalp is no longer itchy! The Spirulina + Avocado Oil hair mask has a nice, clean scent, which is not at all overpowering. It's thick and creamy, and rinsed out really easily even though I left it in for much longer than the recommended time.

I'm definitely going to be using a hair mask on a more regular basis from now on! What is your favorite hair mask? Thanks for reading! xo

L'Oreal Colorista Spray 1-Day Color Review

Hi friends! I heard about the L'Oréal Colorista Spray 1-Day Color in a magazine ad, and I thought it looked like a really awesome product. I decided to try out the green shade for St Patrick's Day.

L'Oreal Colorista Spray 1-Day Color in #Mint40
As you can see, the color is subtle since my hair is pretty dark.

This product is super fun to use, but keep in mind that it can get a little messy. It transfers easily, so if you run your fingers through your hair they will get colored as well! The L'Oreal Colorista Spray 1-Day Color dries hard, like hairspray, and is slightly difficult to brush through. I would suggest washing your hair before trying to brush or comb through it. I tried to brush through the product myself and my brush turned green. There is a note on the back of the can saying "lastingness will vary depending on color and condition of hair". My hair is color-treated and a little damaged, and it actually took me two shampoos to wash this out completely. Overall, I quite like this product and I would definitely buy it again for a special event!

Have you tried this product yet? Are you a fan of spray on color? Thanks for stopping by! xo

DIY St Patrick's Day Banner

Hello friends! You might not know this, but I have some Irish blood in me. When I was little, my parents would take me and my sister to the St Patrick's Day parade every year. Last year was the first St Patrick's Day spent in my own house and I did absolutely nothing to celebrate... So this year I've decided to go all out! I put some decorations up two weeks ago (early, I know). I will also be baking some green themed treats (keep an eye out for those on my Instagram @meatballhead124). Today I want to show you how I made this simple and cute St Patrick's Day banner.

Here are the materials I used:
The green and orange papers are from the scrapbooking section at Michael's. The only item not pictured here are the glitter shamrocks I used for the last flag. I found them at Dollarama.

I started by cutting out six flags in the colors of the Irish flag.

These metallic Sharpies are awesome!! I practised my calligraphy skills to write out "lucky". I used the glue gun to glue the glitter shamrocks on the last flag.

Using a hole punch I made holes at the top of each flag and strung them together with twine (also from Dollarama). I created a loop at each end to tape the banner to the celling.

This project was super fun and only took me under an hour to complete. Hope you are all having a fab weekend! xo

Revlon Holochrome Collection Review

Hi loves! I recently picked up two shades from the Revlon Holochrome collection on impulse while browsing the drugstore. The gorgeous shiny packaging really caught my eye! I thought the Holochrome collection was brand new, but after a quick Google search I discovered that it was actually released last fall. So I'm a tad late, but better late than never, right? I purchased two shades from the collection: Unicornicopia and Hologasm. The collection has such cute names!

Here is Unicornicopia without flash. It's a gorgeous lavender.

And here is it with flash. You can see the holographic effect much better.

The Holochrome polishes have great staying power, probably because of the micro glitters in them (I always found that glitter nail polish rarely chips). Here is how my mani looked after five days. Not bad, eh?

Below is a Valentine's Day mani I did using Hologasm. Hologasm is a gorgeous pale silver. It's slightly sheer, so I had to use three coats. Here's how it looks without flash.

And here it is with flash. So sparkly!!

I'm extremely impressed with these polishes and I can definitely see myself wearing these a lot, especially during the summer! I think Unicornicopia would look stunning as a pedicure color. Have you tried any polishes from this collection? I'm very tempted to pick up Fairy Dust as well, it's such a lovely blue!

Thanks for reading! xo
