Book Review: Twelve Days of Christmas by Debbie Macomber

Hi friends! I haven’t done a book review in ages, and to be honest, it’s because I haven’t been reading a lot of books. I spend a lot of time on social media or watching Netflix, but very little time reading. I do miss it, and while I was browsing Indigo sometime this fall I came across Twelve Days of Christmas by Debbie Macomber. After reading the back cover, I decided to pick it up and save it for December. I had never read a novel by Debbie Macomber before, and the cashier at Indigo told me she is a very popular author so I was quite excited.

Twelve Days of Christmas is such a fun, light, romantic read and it helped put me in the Christmas spirit. The main character, Julia, decides to start a kindness experiment to see what effect it will have on her super grouchy neighbour, Cain. It’s a romance novel, so you guessed it, Julia and Cain slowly fall in love. Julia blogs about her kindness experiment, and she is faced with the difficult decision of whether or not she should tell Cain about her blog, which has become wildly successful. What I liked about this novel is that it’s written in the third person, so you can see what both Julia and Cain are thinking. The kindness experiment is what helps put the reader in the Christmas spirit: kindness is something everyone can give, no matter how rich or poor. Showing kindness to a grouchy person just might make a difference in that person’s outlook. When people are rude to others for no reason, being rude back will only worsen things (even if it can be tempting). Being extra nice on purpose can go a long way.
