April Sunshine OOTD

Hello lovelies!! It's finally getting warmer here! There's a French saying that goes: "Au mois d'avril, ne te découvre pas d'un fil" which means "In April, do not remove a single thread". The literal translation doesn't make much sense, but the saying means that in April, it's still too early to be putting away all your winter gear as the temperature can still go below zero degrees (and often does!). The first few days of April were quite cold and rainy. However, this weekend has been gorgeous and well above zero so Simon and I decided to go for a long walk near the Ottawa river. As you can see, it's still a bit gloomy out as the trees are still barren but the gorgeous sunshine made up for it!

Be Kinder to Yourself

Sometimes I feel like I'm my own biggest critic. I can be a perfectionist at times and I overthink tiny details. I decided to write this post to help anyone who might also struggle in this area. We should love ourselves and encourage ourselves, not focus on our flaws. It's important to remember that no one is perfect. If you've made a mistake today, forgive yourself! Remember that tomorrow is a new opportunity to try again. If you're kind to yourself you'll feel more positive, and it will be easier for you to be kind to others. Here is a list of ways to be kinder to yourself:

-Take deep breaths; relax
-Take a bath
-Drink a lot of water
-Let go of negative thoughts
-Go for a walk
-Eat healthy
-Treat yourself to a sweet
-Stop comparing yourself to others
-Listen to the wind in the trees
-Exercise
-Take time for your hobbies
-Spend time with animals
-Remember that you're unique

What are some of the things you do to be kinder to yourself? Thank you for stopping by! xo

Backyard Wishlist

Hello lovely readers! The first day of spring is right around the corner (finally!) and I'm really looking forward to sunny days spent in my backyard. Currently my backyard isn't very exciting, but I have lots of ideas to spruce it up. I can't wait to start working on my garden. However, that won't be for a while since the ground is still frozen and mostly covered in snow... so for now I'm dreaming. Here is my current wishlist:

2. Intex Double Quick III S Hand Pump WALMART (here)
3. Quadral Patio Slab RONA (here)
4. Roma Planter CANADIAN TIRE (here)
5. Canterbury Urn THE HOME DEPOT (here
6. Parsons Collection Swing CANADIAN TIRE (here)

Schwarzkopf Got 2b Smooth Operator Smoothing Lustre Lotion REVIEW

Hi friends! In today's blog post I wanted to share my appreciation for the Schwarzkopf Got 2b Smooth Operator Smoothing Lustre Lotion with you. This serum has been a LIFE SAVER for me lately! I have damaged, dry hair and unfortunately I have a lot of pesky fly-aways. It's been raining on and off for the past while, and rain always makes my fly-aways much worse. If I wear my hair down, I apply a small amount of serum into the ends of my hair to keep split-ends at bay. When I wear my hair up, I apply a small amount to the sides of my head. This serum has kept my hair under control and smooth all day long with either hairstyle!

The Schwarzkopf Got 2b Smooth Operator Smoothing Lustre Lotion contins cashmere (how fancy), and smells amazing! I really love the texture of this serum: it's not sticky or oily at all. It just melts into the hair and does a fantastic job. This serum also contains a UV protectant as an added bonus!!

What's your favorite hair serum? Thanks for stopping by! xo

Julep Orbital Eyeshadow in Zenith

Hi lovelies! Today I'm sharing my thoughts on the Julep Orbital eyeshadow in Zenith. It's a gorgeous cooper brown packed with gold glitter flecks. The packaging is very chic. I love that it has a built-in mirror! To obtain maximum impact, I find it's best to apply Zenith by gently tapping it on my eyelid with a brush, while avoiding swirling motions. Unfortunately, Zenith creates a lot of fallout.... but babyyyy, that glitter! The gold flecks catch the light and give your my eyes dimension. I kept the look simple by layering Julep over a nude eyeshadow that I applied all over as base.
Products used:
-Hard Candy Eyes The Limit eyeshadow primer
-Estee Lauder eyeshadow in Waves
-Julep Orbital eyeshadow in Zenith
-Estee Lauder Double Wear mascara

Have you tried any makeup products from Julep? Thanks for reading! xo

Let's Celebrate Something Today

Hi friends! I wanted to share this easy DIY project I recently did with you. If you've been following me for a while, you'll know that I have a soft spot for motivational quotes. In fact, I have encouraging quotes all over my house! I stumbled upon the phrase "Let's Celebrate Something Today" on Pinterest and I immediately knew I wanted to have it up on my wall somehow. It's a great reminder to make the most out of everyday. There is always something that is worth celebrating, even if it's as simple as thanking God for another day to enjoy!

I used stencils, bristol paper and a permanent marker to write the quote, and pretty scrap-booking paper and string to make the banner. These photos were taken in my old bedroom in my parent's house, but the frame is now hung up on the wall in my office. You might recognize the frame from a previous DIY project: do you remember my positive quote collage? (Check it out here.)

What are your favorite motivational quotes? Thank you for reading! xo

Essence Get Big! Lashes Triple Black Mascara

Hello lovely readers! I'm excited to be writing my first post of 2017! I recently picked up a tube of Essence Get Big! Lashes Triple Black mascara (because I didn't feel like splurging on L'Oreal). I'm always amazed at how great Essence products are for their low price point, and this mascara is no exception!
The brush is huge, and to be honest I was a little intimidated by it at first. Would it give me harsh, clumpy lashes? However, this mascara leaves my lashes looking super soft and full, without any sign of clumps! I will say it is hard to reach into the corners of my lashes without making a mess, but that could just be me. I'm usually messy when it comes to mascara application (I always have a handy q-tip nearby!)
Overall, I'm really happy I picked up the Essence Get Big! Lashes Triple Black mascara. I'm looking forward to trying all of Essence's mascaras!

Hoping your year is off to a great start! Thanks for reading! xo
