Halloween 2015 - Goth Inspired Makeup

Hello beauties and Happy Halloween!! I hope you are all having a fabulously spooky time! Since I wanted to dress up for work, I dressed up yesterday instead of today. I went for a goth inspired look, with dark makeup and dark clothing. It was so fun to play with different eyeshadows in my makeup collection to create the smokey eyes! I've been stuck using the same light eyeshadows in my Hello Kitty Mon Amour palette for ever for my current project pan!
I used my Estee Lauder 2014 Color Portfolio palette for my eyes. I packed on a ton of "Amazing Grey" on my lids as a base, then applied "Black Chrome" in my crease and over my lid. To highlight my brow bone, I used "Sugar Cube". Next I applied a thin line of my L'Oreal Infallible The Super Slim liquid eyeliner and a few coats of L'Oreal Telecopic mascara. To fill in my brows, I used a purple eyeliner from Sephora to try to match my wig (it's a mini eyeliner that came with a holiday set that I got ages ago and doesn't have a name on it). To contour I applied "Lover's Blush" on my cheekbones (also from the Estee Lauder 2014 Color Portfolio).

I really had fun looking like a goth for the day. It gave me the idea of going darker with my hair and I'm seriously thinking about getting black highlights! Thanks for stopping by!! :) xo

NOTD: Seduce Me by China Glaze

Hello loves! I'm a huge fan of red nails for fall (and the holiday season of course!). "Seduce Me" by China Glaze is a fabulous deep red with blue undertones. I'm a sucker for nail polishes with cute names and this one definitely "seduced" me into buying it!

What nail polish shades have you been loving this fall? Thanks for stopping by! xo

Staying Positive

Hello dear readers! Today I wanted to talk about a topic I don't normally discuss on my blog: mental health and keeping a positive mindset. It's easy to get discouraged and stressed in our busy lives, and things don't always go the way we plan. There are times when keeping a positive mindset seems very difficult. However it's important to remember that although you can't always control the situations you are faced with, you CAN always control your attitude. You can control your thoughts and be happy on purpose! It's important not to let little things get to you. There are days when this is easier said than done, but I've learned that when I'm faced with a tough situation the best thing to do is focus on the positive things and cast my care onto God. When I'm having a bad day, spending a few quiet moments praying, reading motivational books or listening to motivational talks really helps me shake the negativity off. I thought it would be a nice idea to write down some of my favorite inspirational quotes so I could read them whenever I need a positive boost. I made a little poster using Bristol board, some markers and some flower cut-outs from the scrap-booking aisle at the craft store.
To keep a positive mindset, it's important to always be thankful for what you do have instead of focusing on what you don't have. Take the time to enjoy the small things! Notice the sunsets, listen to the birds singing and the wind rustling through the leaves. Try to see the beauty in everything. Wishing you all happiness and joy!!

Review: NYC Kohl Brow/EyeLiner Pencil in Taupe

Hello loves! A few weeks ago, I had run out of my trusty Avon Ultra Luxury brow pencil so I picked up this NYC Kohl Brow/Eyeliner pencil on a whim. I'm really glad I did, because I'm super impressed with it! The texture is slightly waxy, which is perfect for the brows because it really helps hold all the hairs in place. The color glides on and lasts all day without fading or smudging. It also sharpens well and never broke on me while sharpening. However, the best part is definitely the price: this pencil was a steal for only $2.47 CAD at Walmart!

Here is my freshly filled-in brow. I also applied a thin layer of
transparent Maybelline Brow Drama brow mascara.
Here is my brow 10 hours later. As you can see, the NYC pencil hasn't budged!!

I haven't tried using this pencil as an eyeliner since I purchased it specifically for my brows, so I can't tell you how it worked on my eyes. However I'm very happy with how it works for my brows and I will probably repurchase it! Thanks for reading! xo

Maybelline Fit Me Powders: Original Formula Vs New Matte + Poreless Formula

Hello loves! I'm a huge fan of the Maybelline Fit Me setting powder. I've been using the original formula for years. Since I have oily skin, I decided to try the Matte + Poreless formula and see if it made a difference. I wanted to share my thoughts on both powders with you.
The Maybelline Fit Me powder in the original formula comes with a pouf, and the Matte + Poreless powder comes with a sponge. However, I apply both powders with a powder brush.
The swatches are hard to see on against my pale skin but the original powder is under the triangle on the left. It's slightly lighter than the Matte + Poreless powder even though both are in shade "120 Classic Ivory"!

Maybelline Fit Me Powder Original: I believe this powder has been renamed and now has a label indicating that it's for normal to dry skin (mine pictured above is in the old packaging). This powder sets my makeup and gives me a tiny bit of extra coverage. I find it really helps to make my pores look smaller, especially on and around my nose. My skin does get a bit oily near the end of the day, but I just dab away the excess oil with a tissue and apply another layer of powder. This product does not make my skin look cakey even after reapplying. It has tiny shimmers in it, but they are not noticeable on the face.
If you look closely, you can see the tiny shimmers.

Maybelline Fit Me Powder Matte + Poreless: This powder has no shimmers in it at all. It really gives my skin the flat, matte effect. The consistency is slightly different than the original: it's less powdery and almost a tiny bit siliconey. My skin still gets oily near the end of the day, but applying another layer does not make me cakey either. However, I did notice I looked quite cakey when using this powder in combination with the Relvon Colorstay 24h foundation (which is a very heavy foundation that sets quickly). I would not recommend using this powder with  heavy foundations, but it does work great with medium coverage foundations or BB creams. I find it gives a little more coverage than the original formula. When using this powder, I find it important to bronze my face or at least use blush, or else I find I look too matte and flat!
This formula is completely flat.

Both powders are great, but I will not be repurchasing the Matte + Poreless one. I just prefer the original formula. Thanks for reading! xo

Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Xtreme Mascara Review

Hello loves!! I haven't tried a Rimmel London mascara in a while, so when I saw this one on sale at the drugstore I definitely bought it! The formula is different from any other mascara I've tried. It's almost like a gel, without being too wet nor too dry. The plastic brush is very fun with it's two sides. I use the lengthening side to apply the first coat to my top lashes. Then, without dipping my brush back into the mascara, I apply a second coat with the volumizing side, focusing on my lash roots. Finally, I apply a light coat to my bottom lashes using the lengthening side of the brush. This mascara lasts all day without smudging or flaking.
Here is the lengthening side.
This is the volumizing side.
Here's the final result!

Have you tried this mascara yet? Thanks for reading! xo

Estee Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in Pinkberry

Hello lovely readers! I've had this Estée Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in "Pinkberry" in my collection for a little while now and wanted to show it some love, since I've decided to make an effort to wear my lipsticks more often. Estée Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting lipsticks have an amazing formula: they are super creamy, smooth, and don't make my lips feel dry. These lipsticks also have really good staying power. After meals, I noticed the color had faded slightly but was still there (even after taking bites into my sandwich at lunch!). In my opinion "Pinkberry" is the perfect everyday pink for fall and winter. It embellishes my natural lip color without making too much of a statement, adding that special touch to any makeup look.

Have you tried an Estée Lauder lipstick before? Thanks for reading! xo

Decluttering My Makeup Collection

1- Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Foundation in "Classic Ivory"
2- NYX Mosaic Powder in "Champagne"
3- NYX Nude Matte Shadow in "Betrayal"
4- NYX eyeshadow in "Midnight"
5- Mary Kay eyeshadow in "Storm"
6- Sigma eyeshadow in "Indian Girl"

I find it's important to regularly go through my ever-growing makeup collection and get rid of products I don't use often, either because I don't like them or because I just don't need them! I already made a decluttering video on my YouTube channel for 2015 (click here if you're interested), but I still felt like I could get rid of a few more products, so I decided to dedicate a blog post to them. Most of these products are very gently used, so I'm going to give them to a friend. The black eyeshadows are too dark for my taste (why do I own so many?). I have a few black eyeshadows in some of my palettes, so I don't need these single ones. The NYX matte eyeshadow in "Betrayal" is a lovely deep brown color, but I'm just not a fan of matte eyeshadows. The NYX Mosaic Powder quite pretty, but it's too dark for my super pale skin!! Finally, I'm getting rid of the Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Foundation simply because I don't like it. The texture just doesn't work for me and my skin gets quite oily when I use it. I'm going to toss the foundation out because I've had it for a while and it's probably expired!

Are you due for a declutter?? Thanks for stopping by!! xo

Avon Gel Finish 7-in-1 Nail Enamel in "Envy"

Hello lovelies! Back in March I tried a few of Avon's Gel Finish 7-in-1 nail enamels and I was really impressed! (Click here to see my original post.) Avon has been adding new colors to this range, but I've been trying very hard not to buy any more since my nail polish collection is quite large. I finally caved in and picked up a few fall colors. Fall is a perfect reason to buy new nail polish, right? Here is "Envy", a stunning forest green with tiny shimmer flecks. It looks slightly blue-ish depending on the lighting, but it really is a deep green.
I added a coat of the Pro-Fx quick dry high gloss top coat.

Avon Gel Finish 7-in-1 nail enamels are super long wearing! I painted my nails on Saturday and only just removed the polish today. I only had a few minor chips on 2 fingernails! Have you tried this range yet? Thanks for stopping by! xo
