Happy New Year 2016!

Hello lovely readers! Happy New Year to all of you! I hope you'll be enjoying the evening with family and friends. I'm personally going to have a quiet night-in with my boyfriend. I just wanted to share my thoughts as 2015 comes to a close, and share my resolutions for 2016, corny or not! Like every year, 2015 was filled with ups and downs, but was a fantastic year overall. Here are of few of 2015's highlights for me:
  • I celebrated my 25th birthday this year!
  • I became more financially responsible, saving more and working to pay off my debt.
  • I stuck to my resolution to become healthier: I lost 18 lbs and kept it off!! I'm eating much more sensibly and exercising frequently.
  • I grew spiritually this year and feel much closer to God. I've been working hard everyday to adjust my attitude, be thankful and positive instead of giving in to negativity.
  • Finally, I'm proud of my blog/YouTube accomplishments: I'm proud of myself for being consistent and posting new content as often as I can. The quality of my content has also improved. It's not perfect but I feel as though I've come a long way from when I first started in 2012!
I have big plans for 2016: I'm hoping to purchase my first home with my boyfriend Simon. If everything works out, I'll update you either on here or on YouTube. Perhaps I'll post a house tour video, or a home décor haul! My first resolution for 2016 is to be more punctual. I'm pretty good at arriving on time for work, but I'm often late when meeting with friends. It's a very rude habit so I'd like to work on arriving early!! My second resolution is to work on not gossiping. Gossiping is something I struggle with and it's something that gets me into trouble. It is much wiser to keep my mouth shut!

What are your resolutions and plans for 2016? Thanks so much for stopping by and may God bless you! xo

Review: Avon Perfect Brow Gel in Dark Brown

Hello beauties! I'm a big fan of brow gels. They add that finishing touch to powder or pencil filled brows, and are also great to use alone in a pinch! When I noticed the Avon Perfect Brow Gel on sale a little while ago, I decided to pick one up and give it a try.
First of all, I'd like to mention that this brow gel was a very unique and interesting applicator! I've never seen one like it before. The Avon Perfect Brow Gel is a twist and click tube with little siliconey bristles. To be honest, I was a little intimidated by the bristles when I first saw them. However, they are actually quite easy to work with! This gel has a relatively thick consistency that spreads easily, and dries quickly. It actually contains tiny fibres which help fill sparse areas. The Avon Perfect Brow Gel works great on it's own, and also compliments pre-filled in brows.
There are the tiny fibers in the gel.
Here I used the brow gel by itself.
Here I applied the brow gel after filling in my brows with the Avon Ultra Luxury Brow
Pencil in "Light Golden Brown" (which is why the color looks different). I like both looks,
it really just depends on how much time I have in the morning!!

The Avon Perfect Brow gel lasts all day without fading or flaking. It's also very affordable, even for the regular price. Avon did not disappoint!!

I'm Here To Party!! New Year's Eve Outfit Inspo

Hello loves! I was contacted by a representative from the west coast division of the Fairmont Hotels, asking me to create a New Year's Eve party outfit inspired by the stunning Grand Del Mar hotel in San Diego, California. After browsing the fabulous photographs on the Grand Del Mar's website, here is the outfit I came up with:

The dress is super elegant with the beautiful beaded bodice. The shoes have asymmetrical straps which are so fun. I think the silver clutch and earrings compliment the dress without being too flashy themselves. This outfit says: "I'm here to party!!"

Here are a few of my favorite photos from the Grand Del Mar's website. Imagine spending your New Year's Eve there, how luxurious!

Bedroom Christmas Decor: 2015 Edition

Hello loves! It's already been two weeks since I decorated my room for the Christmas season (yes I got really excited!). I made a post similar to this one back in 2013 (click here if you're interested). Most of my decorations are the same apart from a few new pieces, but I also changed my arrangements. If everything goes well, my boyfriend and I should be moved out into our own house next year, so perhaps I'll be able to blog about all the Christmas decorations in own new house! I'm really excited to have my own tree (or should I say trees?)! But for now, here is my bedroom decor:
The little animals are new from 2014. I bought them at Target which unfortunately no longer exists in Canada! I've had the vase and ornaments for ages. I believe they're from Loblaws. The candles are from Bath and Body Works of course!
My nutcraker is super old, from Rexall I believe. I think he looks adorable next
to my makeup brushes!
This little Nativity scene is actually a tea light holder. I embellished it with a pine ornament. I keep makeup wedges handy beside it (these little shelves are part of my vanity).
This is my messy shelf on which I put some decor items and some crafting items I want to keep out of my cat's reach. The lights are from Dollarama and so are the ornaments.
How festive!!

Are you a Christmas decoration fanatic? Thanks for stopping by! xo

Milani Lipstick in Matte Naked

Hello beauties! I wanted to share my new love for Milani lipsticks with you! As you know, I've recently been stepping out my comfort zone and actually wearing lipsticks, and I've been having a lot of fun. I heard a lot of good things about Milani lipsticks on YouTube and Pinterest, so I decided to try them out myself. I picked up "Pretty Natural", a dark pink that compliments many skin tones, and "Matte Naked", which is the lipstick I will be raving about today. It's absolutely gorgeous! "Matte Naked" is a matte brownish-pink nude shade which I think is perfect for fall and winter. The texture is quite amazing, it's super smooth and creamy. Although it is a matte lipstick, is doesn't make my lips feel dry at all. I like to wear it alone without a lip liner. It's a quick one-step lip product! "Matte Naked" has a sweet scent, like a cake or a yummy bakery treat. However I can only detect a smell as I'm applying it, the smell doesn't stay on my lips. It fades pretty evenly even after eating, and touch-ups don't mess up the texture or make it feel too cakey.

I'm a huge fan of Milani lipsticks so far! They look so luxurious with their chic gold packaging, but they are super reasonably priced at drugstores!!

What's your take on Milani lipsticks? Do you own any? Thanks for reading! xo

Maybelline The Blushed Nudes Palette: Review and Swatches

Hello beauties! I've seen this cute little palette popping up everywhere: in magazines, on Instagram, and of course on YouTube. When I saw it on sale at my local Rexall I snatched it up! I've been trying really hard not to buy new eyeshadows lately since I'm doing a project pan, but I caved in. Everyone needs a little treat sometimes, right? I've been using it for a few weeks now and I'm really impressed with it. The Maybelline Blushed Nudes palette comes with twelve eyeshadows which are definitely great quality for the price. The top row contains the "blushed" nudes (pinkish shades), and the bottom row contains "true" nudes (beiges and greys). Most of the shades are shimmery which is perfect for me because I'm not a big fan of matte eyeshadows.

Here are some swatches and a look I wore using this palette:

Top row: some of the shades are quite light and that don't show up well on my arm (you can see some shimmers but that's it!).

Bottom row: these shades are much more pigmented!
My favorite shades in the palette are the copper in the top row (second from the right) and the brownish-grey in the bottom row (third from the right). For this look I started by applying the white shade (top row, first on the left) all over my lid as a base and to highlight my brow bone. Then I applied the copper shade all over my lid and blended the the dark pink shade (top row, first one on the right) into the outer corner.

Overall I'm very happy I got it this palette!! Thanks for stopping by! xo

OOTD: Faux-Leather & Leopard Print

Hello loves! Fall is in full swing and I felt like digging my faux-leather skirt out of my closet. I've had this skirt for almost two years, but haven't worn it often because it was just a tad tight on me. I've actually lost a bit of weight since January and it fits much better!! I've shown this skirt on my blog when I first bought it with a slight variation of this outfit here. I just really like pairing it with leopard print!

I had a hard time getting my camera to focus today so this is my annoyed look... I ended up taking the photos in my bathroom and couldn't get a full body shot!! However the pictures are much better than in the old blog post so I'm thankful for that.
Cardigan: H&M
Tank top: Denver Hayes
Skirt: Dynamite
Booties: Call It Spring

Halloween 2015 - Goth Inspired Makeup

Hello beauties and Happy Halloween!! I hope you are all having a fabulously spooky time! Since I wanted to dress up for work, I dressed up yesterday instead of today. I went for a goth inspired look, with dark makeup and dark clothing. It was so fun to play with different eyeshadows in my makeup collection to create the smokey eyes! I've been stuck using the same light eyeshadows in my Hello Kitty Mon Amour palette for ever for my current project pan!
I used my Estee Lauder 2014 Color Portfolio palette for my eyes. I packed on a ton of "Amazing Grey" on my lids as a base, then applied "Black Chrome" in my crease and over my lid. To highlight my brow bone, I used "Sugar Cube". Next I applied a thin line of my L'Oreal Infallible The Super Slim liquid eyeliner and a few coats of L'Oreal Telecopic mascara. To fill in my brows, I used a purple eyeliner from Sephora to try to match my wig (it's a mini eyeliner that came with a holiday set that I got ages ago and doesn't have a name on it). To contour I applied "Lover's Blush" on my cheekbones (also from the Estee Lauder 2014 Color Portfolio).

I really had fun looking like a goth for the day. It gave me the idea of going darker with my hair and I'm seriously thinking about getting black highlights! Thanks for stopping by!! :) xo

NOTD: Seduce Me by China Glaze

Hello loves! I'm a huge fan of red nails for fall (and the holiday season of course!). "Seduce Me" by China Glaze is a fabulous deep red with blue undertones. I'm a sucker for nail polishes with cute names and this one definitely "seduced" me into buying it!

What nail polish shades have you been loving this fall? Thanks for stopping by! xo

Staying Positive

Hello dear readers! Today I wanted to talk about a topic I don't normally discuss on my blog: mental health and keeping a positive mindset. It's easy to get discouraged and stressed in our busy lives, and things don't always go the way we plan. There are times when keeping a positive mindset seems very difficult. However it's important to remember that although you can't always control the situations you are faced with, you CAN always control your attitude. You can control your thoughts and be happy on purpose! It's important not to let little things get to you. There are days when this is easier said than done, but I've learned that when I'm faced with a tough situation the best thing to do is focus on the positive things and cast my care onto God. When I'm having a bad day, spending a few quiet moments praying, reading motivational books or listening to motivational talks really helps me shake the negativity off. I thought it would be a nice idea to write down some of my favorite inspirational quotes so I could read them whenever I need a positive boost. I made a little poster using Bristol board, some markers and some flower cut-outs from the scrap-booking aisle at the craft store.
To keep a positive mindset, it's important to always be thankful for what you do have instead of focusing on what you don't have. Take the time to enjoy the small things! Notice the sunsets, listen to the birds singing and the wind rustling through the leaves. Try to see the beauty in everything. Wishing you all happiness and joy!!

Review: NYC Kohl Brow/EyeLiner Pencil in Taupe

Hello loves! A few weeks ago, I had run out of my trusty Avon Ultra Luxury brow pencil so I picked up this NYC Kohl Brow/Eyeliner pencil on a whim. I'm really glad I did, because I'm super impressed with it! The texture is slightly waxy, which is perfect for the brows because it really helps hold all the hairs in place. The color glides on and lasts all day without fading or smudging. It also sharpens well and never broke on me while sharpening. However, the best part is definitely the price: this pencil was a steal for only $2.47 CAD at Walmart!

Here is my freshly filled-in brow. I also applied a thin layer of
transparent Maybelline Brow Drama brow mascara.
Here is my brow 10 hours later. As you can see, the NYC pencil hasn't budged!!

I haven't tried using this pencil as an eyeliner since I purchased it specifically for my brows, so I can't tell you how it worked on my eyes. However I'm very happy with how it works for my brows and I will probably repurchase it! Thanks for reading! xo

Maybelline Fit Me Powders: Original Formula Vs New Matte + Poreless Formula

Hello loves! I'm a huge fan of the Maybelline Fit Me setting powder. I've been using the original formula for years. Since I have oily skin, I decided to try the Matte + Poreless formula and see if it made a difference. I wanted to share my thoughts on both powders with you.
The Maybelline Fit Me powder in the original formula comes with a pouf, and the Matte + Poreless powder comes with a sponge. However, I apply both powders with a powder brush.
The swatches are hard to see on against my pale skin but the original powder is under the triangle on the left. It's slightly lighter than the Matte + Poreless powder even though both are in shade "120 Classic Ivory"!

Maybelline Fit Me Powder Original: I believe this powder has been renamed and now has a label indicating that it's for normal to dry skin (mine pictured above is in the old packaging). This powder sets my makeup and gives me a tiny bit of extra coverage. I find it really helps to make my pores look smaller, especially on and around my nose. My skin does get a bit oily near the end of the day, but I just dab away the excess oil with a tissue and apply another layer of powder. This product does not make my skin look cakey even after reapplying. It has tiny shimmers in it, but they are not noticeable on the face.
If you look closely, you can see the tiny shimmers.

Maybelline Fit Me Powder Matte + Poreless: This powder has no shimmers in it at all. It really gives my skin the flat, matte effect. The consistency is slightly different than the original: it's less powdery and almost a tiny bit siliconey. My skin still gets oily near the end of the day, but applying another layer does not make me cakey either. However, I did notice I looked quite cakey when using this powder in combination with the Relvon Colorstay 24h foundation (which is a very heavy foundation that sets quickly). I would not recommend using this powder with  heavy foundations, but it does work great with medium coverage foundations or BB creams. I find it gives a little more coverage than the original formula. When using this powder, I find it important to bronze my face or at least use blush, or else I find I look too matte and flat!
This formula is completely flat.

Both powders are great, but I will not be repurchasing the Matte + Poreless one. I just prefer the original formula. Thanks for reading! xo
